Backwater Valve & Sump Pump

WHAT IS A SUMP PUMP?

A sump pump ensures your home’s foundations and footings remain dry by effectively redirecting water out of the home. Other basements without this pump are susceptible to floods.

It is connected to your weeping tile system (also called a drainage tile, pushing underground water away from your home), surrounding the perimeter of the house, so it doesn’t overflow due to heavy rain and storms.

A sump pump is used to remove the dampness and moisture that sits on top of the water table that is located on top of the home’s foundation.

Before, the draining of a weeping tile was via a connection to your existing drainage system. This system was almost a guarantee your home would eventually get flooded due to the system’s deterioration.

WHY INSTALL A SUMP PUMP?

Canada’s weather is unpredictable, to say the least. There is more rainfall, and homes are becoming more and more susceptible to flooding as city sewer systems are incapable of keeping up with the larger volumes of water. Scarborough is growing rapidly, with more residential communities, people living and raising families. The need for waterproofing homes goes up in tandem with the uptick in population and residential communities.

A sump pump is an effective solution to alleviating worries more and more homeowners have about flooding. It will assist in keeping your basement dry and help to avoid any damage or loss to your home’s foundation.

Canada Waterproofers Scarborough can give you a free onsite assessment of your home so we can find the best solution that suits you. We want to ensure you’re protected from any future flooding with the latest in waterproofing technology.

The first step in a sump pump installation is to sever the old weeping tile connection from the city sewer. This will help against flooding.

In order to ensure the sump pump works most effectively we also recommend the installation of a sewer back-up valve (backwater valve) in order to protect you from any sewage that backs up from the city sewers. If you want more information, check out our drain section to read more about backwater valves and how important it is for flood protection in your home.

A sump pump has three main features:

  • The first consists of a tank that holds the water that is drained from a weeping tile
  • A pump that gets rid of the water from the basement by pumping it up and out of the basement to a drainage point that is predetermined in consultation with our team of professionals
  • An optional and recommended feature that can be added to the sump pump is a battery back-up system and alarm th
